ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
District 3820, Philippines

CHICAGO
THE ROTARY FOUNDATION
CHALLENGE

R.I. THEME 2004 -2005
MESSAGE
My Dear Centennial Presidents,
RE: CHICAGO ROTARY FOUNDATION CHALLENGE
My family and I take immense pleasure in being of service to our great organization, especially so that it is at such a momentous occasion as the centennial of Rotary. On behalf of the entire Rotary community District 3820, your council of Past District Governors and my own Centennial Team, I would like to thank you for your enthusiasm and continued support to our organization as we celebrate Rotary’s 100th birthday.
One of the centennial goals is to support to The Rotary Foundation. The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary International in the fulfillment of the Object of Rotary, Rotary’s mission, and the achievement of world understanding and peace through local, national and international humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs. The Rotary Foundation provides clubs the opportunity to participate in and contribute to programs that make a real difference in the lives of the people around the world. It also enables Rotarians to increase world understanding and peace through meaningful cooperation with other clubs around the world. In fact, one of the activities of the centennial is the Polio Plus, a 20-year old Rotary Foundation program that aims to eradicate polio by centennial year 2005. Indeed, the eradication of polio and declaration of a polio-free world will be the most historic centennial event.
Former Rotary Foundation alumnus and former secretary to US President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, “So when you ask, ‘Can Rotarians do anything?’ I answer: they can do every thing.”
The worldwide Centennial goal is to reach $100 or more per Rotarian in giving to the Annual Programs Fund. I am asking each of you to be an instrument for peace and goodwill, and take the Every Rotarian, Every Year message to your heart and to your clubs.
For our year of service, we will be recognizing our TRF contributors. Recognition programs have been set in place as explained in this material.
I hope that we will have an enjoyable and meaningful Rotary year of service and fellowship.
By sharing Rotary with others in fellowship and service, we will Celebrate a Century of Service, Celebrate a New Century of Success, and most of all, Celebrate Rotary!
Yours in Rotary Service,

Michael “Mike” E. Lirio
District Governor, RY 2004-2005
